I know I have a reputation of being some die-hard GM fanboy that hates all Ford products, but this agrees with a lot of my thoughts on the new Continental.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

And to clear the air, no, I don’t hate Ford. I personally am not a fan of a lot of their styling, especially interior styling, but they make fine cars. I’m actually considering a Mustang as a next car, but even used 2015 GT’s are still a tad bit out of my target price range.

I love Ford (but haven’t owned any actual FoMoCo vehicles, but have owned Mazdas and Volvos, if that counts...?), and I also agree mostly with the article. The new Continental should have offered near-Rolls-Royce levels of quality, focus, and design (coach doors are a must for a reborn Continental), but at Cadillac/Acura/Volvo prices to get the ball rolling. RWD with AWD as an option, like Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, and the Genesis. No visible parts from any other FoMoCo vehicle should be visible, except perhaps (and maybe not even then) the infotainment screen (here the Tesla approach of a giant tablet would be wise to emulate, but curved, because groundbreaking and luxurious).

I’m glad Lincoln is trying, but they need just the right formula/recipe, and a FWD-heavy lineup doesn’t help, especially for the flagship. Acura and Volvo are experiencing this same dilemma, and Volvo’s overcoming it with stunning design and attention to detail. Lincoln needs to set their sights above that.

I found their statements of timing to be most interesting. When I saw the Continental unveiled I was wondering what made it so different from the MKZ. I would have had the same thought if they revealed the Continental first, but the MKZ aping the Continental looks far better than the Continental aping the MKZ.

Lincoln needed something more than this Continental, or perhaps I should say what this Continental is. If they were going to revive their classic name, it needed to be Earth shattering like new Ford GT levels.

They’ve just made their flagship at best an Audi A6 which is absurd for a luxury marquee. If they wanted to make a statement the formula is well known: 12 cylinders, more luxury and comforts than the average person has in their own home, unique styling and a six digit price tag.

Remember Cadillac ignited its rebirth with the Sixteen concept and with the rest of its concepts after that seems to genuinely be moving forward.

If you found out that a TTV8 CT6 will cost $90k to start, it seems reasonable but if that Lincoln is over $70k fully loaded, that seems too much.

They must remove the glorified Ford image first, then go for luxury.
